About The Job

West Tech Shipping is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Cargo Assistant / Runner to join our team in Guyana. This role is responsible for assisting with the clearing and collection of cargo from the air and sea ports, assisting with and ensuring shipments move through to release promptly and accurately.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and people-oriented, with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering excellent service in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties

• Responsible for clearing and collecting cargo from the ports (air & sea), ensuring the correct number of pieces are collected

• Scan packages released from the cargo shed or Customs bond, and assist with applying duties as directed by the broker(s)

• Receive, scan, and pack all packages on a daily basis as distributed

• Reconcile packages immediately against the delivery list, updating your supervisor

• Ensure the package room is always organized and packages are easy to locate

• Perform daily stock takes and report shortages/overages for immediate action

• Maintain a clean, safe work area free of hazards

• Assist with customer service duties when needed, including processing transactions accurately

• Answer customer questions about services and charges when out in the field

• Maintain a professional, friendly demeanor with customers at all times

Job Requirements

• Previous experience in cargo, logistics, or a similar operational role is an asset

• Ability to lift and move packages as required

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy, especially in verification and reconciliation tasks

• Reliable and punctual, with the ability to consistently meet cargo pick-up and delivery schedules

• Comfortable working outdoors and at port/customs locations as needed

• Good communication skills, with a customer-focused attitude

• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends where required

• Disciplined, safety-conscious, and able to work well under time pressure

• CXC passes in Mathematics and English.
